Fairy tales and saints, monsters and princesses, glitter and gunk; these are some of the tools and obsessions of the artist Raúl de Nieves. As part of the gallery collective Live With Animals, located in the soon-to-be-demolished Monster Island building in Williamsburg, he’s kept a studio (often times crash pad) and developed and exhibited his painting, sculpture, and performances. These have shown at Newman Popiashvili, Art Basel Miami Beach, and YAUTEPEC in Mexico City. Raúl currently appears as a guest artist in Xavier Cha’s performance Body Drama at the Whitney Museum. He is also featured in many video pieces by Ryan Trecartin’s, including Any Ever, which recently closed at MoMA/PS1, and as Ramada O’mar in the I-Be AREA series.
