A classical composer with works being produced in the greatest houses in the world, Nico Muhly is also no snob. Orchestral works, solo pieces, concertos, ballet scores, film scores, operas – he has written pieces for all genres and settings. As an arranger, a job he likens to tailoring a fitted suit, Muhly has orchestrated music for Björk, Antony and the Johnsons, Grizzly Bear, and Jónsi. Muhly’s first opera, Two Boys, a psychosexual suspense drama, premiered at the English National Opera in July. His second opera, Dark Sisters, about a woman escaping from fundamentalist Mormon polygamy, will premiere in New York in November, 2011.
