Dora and Maja cut doorways onto parallel realties by using generic and simple materials (readymade objects, bananas), summoning new worlds into being for their performative sculptures. These alternate universes exist just long enough to be documented, then the door is shut and all is unceremoniously dismembered and stuffed into garbage bags. Video and photo documentation allows their vivid illusions to live on but it is the act of creation that triggers this duo. Hailing from Zagreb, Croatia, Dora and Maja’s nearly psychic synchronicity is so apparent that they were dubbed “The Creepy Twins” in college. An upcoming performance installation in Salzburg will involve a cave tour via Segway and a spa that uses cell phones as relaxation devices in a twist on the hot stone treatment.
