Striking out into uncharted territory is second nature for Laurel Nakadate. Her early art videos, in which she went home with anonymous men and performed various acts (dancing, posing, playing dead) are perfect examples of her fearless audacity. 365 Days: A Catalogue of Tears documents a year-long performance in which she photographed herself crying every day. Nakadate has also made two feature-length films: Stay the Same Never Change (2009) and the Spirit Award-nominated The Wolf Knife (2010). Only the Lonely, the first large-scale museum exhibition of her work, is on view at MoMA PS1 through 8th August, 2011. www.nakadate.net
